IRS letter asking for 2021 Schedule C form. There is a mistake on form 2555 where my income (foreign company) was put on line 20a instead of 19. how do i correct it?

Do not know why this happened. Unclear how i correct it with the IRS. do i just answer the letter with the corrected 2555 for and my pay slips (no w2 because its a foreign firm)

Before making any corrections, call the IRS at the number on the letter and explain your situation. Follow any instructions they give you over the phone.

It’s really best to contact them in person rather than risk sending in something you’re not sure about and being tied up for months in a prolonged correspondence exchange. Be patient, if you have to wait on the phone; filing season is just starting and it may take you awhile to get through.

If this doesn’t work, please respond and clarify: Did the IRS only ask you about Schedule C? Was Form 2555 mentioned at all, or did you simply discover the mistake on the form after filing?

thank you so much for the response! i will give them a call to ask what to do then.

In the letter they sent me they called out the From 2555 and the row, so it was simple for me to see that the info was sitting on the wrong row.

Line 19 is for wage, bonues which is what i needed to fill

Line 20 is for Allowable share of income for personal services performed. which i have zero

im not sure how this got placed wrong in Turbotax. i must have clicked something totally wrong.

Hi there! Did you get a resolution to this? I'm in the same boat. The IRS sent me a LTR 4087c and specifically mentioned Form 2555. In previous years, Form 2555 usually had line 19 filled out, but this year TurboTax decided to put that amount on line 20a. No clue why it decided to put it on line 20a this year!
