Medical Expenses (Paid for with non-HSA funds)

Turbo Tax appears to assume all of my medical expenses are paid for out of my HSA.  This is not true,  I did not have enough money in my HSA so I had to pay cash (or out of pocket not through my HSA) for a significant amount of medical expenses.  Turbo Tax tells me to go back to my 1099-HSA and enter these additional amounts.  I can not find where or how to do this?

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, go to:

    Wages & Income

    Less Common Income

1099-SA, HSA, MSA     START or UPDATE

If using Online, select income and continue until you can select this

    OR

Search    HSA   and jump to HSA

continue through this interview and enter the expenses paid with this account.

    Next, go to

    Deductions & Credits

Medical Expenses and enter the remaining medical expenses paid in 2024

When entering your medical expenses in the Medical Expenses section of TurboTax, be sure to enter both those paid with cash and those paid with a distribution from the HSA.  TurboTax automatically subtracts the amount that you indicate in the HSA section as having been spent on qualified medical expenses when determining the amount to include on Schedule A line 1.
