I am also am getting the "needs review" under Employment Expenses. It would not prevent my filing but it is zeroing out the the entires I have listed and claiming $0 for Job-Related Expenses, so I am not wanting to submit the return. I have over $1000 itemized in the boxes but the total is $0 upon review and the "needs review" remains.

If you are self-employed and had income and expenses you will have to file a schedule C.

However, most W-2 employees cannot deduct out-of-pocket work expenses anymore.

    However, the following workers can.

For these exceptions you can follow these steps

    1. Select Tax Tools
    2. You may have to minimize the Federal and State sections
    3. On the drop-down select Tools
    4. There will be 3 green boxes
    5. Select Topics Search
    6. Under form number or a topic.
    7. Type expenses or educator expenses
    8. Continue through the questions and it will be posted to your return.
