Return wrongly calculated

The IRS calculated our income much higher than TurboTax which changed my refund from $2451 to $291. My question is how could TurboTax miscalculate the social security income on our return?

Please clarify the problem:

  • Did you get Social Security?
  • What is your age?
  • Did you have other income?
  • Did the IRS give you more detail?

Contact us again if you can provide additional details

There were some people...earlier this year, who accidentally indicated they were living in a country with certain tax agreements, whereby your SS wouldn't be taxed by the IRS...but by the country you live in.  There is a follow-up page where you may have quickly flashed thru and accidentally hit the wrong button where it asked

" Are you a U.S. citizen living abroad in one of these countries?"

The only other thing I can think of is if you missed entering some of your Tax-Exempt income from state "Muni" bonds that ends up on line 2a of your form 1040.
