I am getting the Model Y in April 2025, my income is 225k per year. I will be paying cash. Will be filing joint return with wife who has no income. Has the car to be registered in both our names to get the $7500 EV credit?

No; the vehicle doesn't have to be registered to both of you.  The size of your car’s battery determines how much money you may receive.  Typically, the bigger the battery, the bigger the credit.   For some models, the credit amount can fall well below $7,500.   See clean vehicle tax credits on the IRS website.
