Question

Turbo Tax sees that I had a break in my HDHP health plan. I did not. The only option to move forward is to lie and say that the coverage ended. I can't complete my taxes.

Did you have an HDHP health plan? Did you go through the HSA interview and tell TurboTax what type of HDHP coverage you had?

This happens because someone did not go through the HSA interview and tell TurboTax that they had HDHP coverage. But when you answer that question about the type of HDHP coverage you had on December 1, 2023, TurboTax says, "Aha! You had HDHP coverage in 2023 but did not in 2024, so there must have been a lapse in coverage!"

    1. Did you have an HSA in 2023? If not, answer NONE to  the December 1, 2023 question.

    2. Did you have an HSA in 2023 but did not make any contributions to it in 2023, then answer NONE.

    3. If you did not have HDHP coverage at all in 2023, then answer NONE.

The lapse message will go away.
