UTMA Account for Niece

Hello,

In 2024 I created a UTMA savings account for my Niece (5 years old). The account received 10k from myself, and 500 over 5 months from my father. It made a few bucks of interest on that money. It's not part of any investments.

Does this account require a filing, and if so, who is it filed under?

If the account has the child’s SSN associated with it and only a few dollars was generated in income no return has to be filed.

As your minor niece had only unearned income of less than $1,300, it is not required to be reported on the child's tax return, or the parents' tax return.
