We are claiming our 25 year old son due to him living with us for 7 month and we provided more than half of his expenses. He has no income but receives a stipend for Veterans Affairs chapter 35 benefits.

I am entering his 1098-T and the question under grants asks if he receives VA benefits, then asks how much.  Am I supposed to enter the full amount of the stipend if it was used for living expenses (rent prior to moving in with us, transportation to and from school,  etc).

It depends.

If the funds were designated for school tuition, yes, enter that amount.

If the funds were Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) or Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) no, do not enter that amount.

If it were for tuition only, it should be included in Box 5 of the 1098-T.

You can check his award letter from the VA.
