Question

We have purchased an EV from Tesla in 2024. We're asking Tesla to provide a Clean Vehicle Report (15400) and Tesla refuses. Can anything be done to claim the credit?

Tesla claims that we told them at the time of sale that we don't qualify because of our income. We're nowhere near the $300k limit for married, filing jointly. Tesla refuses to help. Is there any way to file the form 15400 without the seller?

You can TRY to print and mail your return to claim the credit and send in the proof of purchase with your return for form 8936 and Schedule A 8936.  These forms can be filled out in TurboTax when selecting the EV car credit.

This may or may not work, as this is the first year that the dealer requirement has been in place. However, there is no way to e-file and try to claim the credit if the dealer did not submit the paperwork.
