A health savings account (HSA) is a tax-free savings account you can use to pay for medical expenses if you have a high-deductible health plan (HDHP)

HSA contributions made by you and your employer are in box 12 of your W-2 with the code W.

To deduct medical, dental, or vision costs on your federal return, you have to itemize your deductions on Schedule A instead of taking the Standard Deduction.

If you itemize, you can deduct medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI).

For more information about what medical expenses you can deduct & which medical expenses do not qualify: IRS Pub. 502 - Medical and Dental Expenses

Here's how to enter your medical expenses in TurboTax:

    1. Open or continue your return.
    2. Navigate to the Schedule A section:
      • TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to Schedule A.
      • TurboTax Desktop: Search for Schedule A and then select the Jump to link.
