Are you in a community property state?

AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI  are the community property states.  If you are filing married filing separately in any of these states, yes, you must complete the information about community property.

TurboTax has allocation screens to help you divide your income when you file MFS in a community property state.  When you enter your information in the State Section, TurboTax will guide you through the interview regarding the allocation of your income.

If you live in a community property state and choose to file Married Filing Separately (MFS),  there are additional rules that you must follow. For additional information, review the TurboTax articles Should You and Your Spouse File Jointly or Separately? and  Married Filing Separately in community property states.
