my 2023 return is due May 1 2025 because of being in a disaster relief state. E-file is open but turbo tax seems to only want to file 2024 returns. Is there a way too e-file 2023 returns?

No.  E-file for TurboTax is only available for current year returns.  E-file for 2023 closed in November of 2024.

Only certain tax professionals with professional tax software can e-file a 2023 tax return.   Users of do-it-yourself-tax software like TurboTax cannot e-file a 2023 return.  Your return has to be filed by mail.   Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
