Question

Why is received interest payments from a seller financed mortgage checked after I entered interest received from a bank? Turbotax will not let me uncheck it.

In the "other dividends and interest" section, the box that says i received the interest from a seller financed mortgage was checked automatically and I can't uncheck it. I need "none" to be checked.

We can clear the seller finance entry by doing a Topic Search.

 Select Tax Tools

  • This is on the left sidebar
  • You may have to minimize the Federal and State options
  • You also may have to scroll down on that menu
  1. Once you can work on Tax Tools
  2. On the drop-down select Tools
  3. There will be 3 or 4 green boxes
  4. Select Topics Search
  5. Type seller
  6. Seller Financed Interest will show
  7. Click [Go]
  8. Delete any seller records using the Garbage Can
  9. Continue to the end

The Seller Financed Income is cleared.

If you go back to your entry screens for Form 1098, you can make sure that the box "This is a seller-financed loan and I did not receive a 1098" is not checked.

  1. Click on the search icon at the top right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type "1098" in the search bar and hit enter
  3. Click on the link "Jump to 1098"
