Do I have to file back taxes from when I was living outside Canada for many years?

If you were a non-resident during that period, then you may not have to. You would need to contact the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to be sure. If you are in Canada or the United States, you can call the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) at 1-800-959-8281. If you are elsewhere, you can call 613-940-8495.
