Question

Is there any late filing penalty if no taxes are owed?

I am getting error code 31 while netfiling. I am a first time return filer in Canada and I was advised to mail my returns instead. I am currently not in Canada and do not owe any taxes to the government. I would like to know if I mail my taxes after getting back (which is after 2nd May), will there be a penalty or a fine That I will have to pay?

As seen in the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Interest and penalties on late taxes there is no interest or penalties for filing late if no taxes are owed. Filing late may cause delays to your benefit and credit payments.
