Every individual who reports married or common law must identify their partner by providing their Name, Social Insurance Number (SIN), Date of Birth and his/her Net Income. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) uses your net income, and your spouse's or common-law partner's net income (or total household income) to calculate the amounts, such as the Canada child benefit, GST/HST credit, social benefits repayment, and certain other credits.

You have to enter your spouse's or common-law partner's net income on page 1 of your return under "Information about your spouse or common-law partner,".
