Can't E-File Due to Zero Income Despite SSA Benefits

I tried to e-file my federal return today, but was told I couldn't do it due to my having zero income. This year, as has been the case for the past several, I entered my SSA benefits per form SSA-1099. I had no other income. In all of the previous years I've been in this situation, I was able to e-file without incident. Has something changed that would make this no longer sufficient? Much obliged to anyone who can assist.

If your taxable income is less than $13,300 (I asssume you are over 65), there is no requirement to file, unless there were tax withholding that you are owed back I think this is part of rhe new tax law

Without taxable income, the IRS will not let you e-file. This has been the case in previous years as well as this year. If you do need to/wish to file a return, you'll have to file by mail.
