Solved

I just got off of the phone with a rep. I was told that Turbo Tax does not retain original uploaded documents. Is this true? I need a copy of the uploaded document.

I need an original image of my W-2 that was uploaded. I was told by a Turbo Tax rep that Turbo Tax does not keep these originally uploaded files, is this correct? I am in the process of purchasing a home and the lender is requiring my W-2 and will not accept the "W-2 form" which is all that I can access. How do I go about retrieving the uploaded images? Thank you.

I assume by "upload" you are referring to the process of downloading information directly into your income tax return.

This process is not a transfer of an actual image of your W-2.  The process transfers information off your W-2 and onto TurboTax worksheets, which information then flows to line 7 of your Form W-2.  If the lender won't accept that, then you might want to get a "wage and income transcript " directly from the IRS: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/tax-return-transcript-types-and-ways-to-order-them

My advice is always download and print a paper copy of your "as filed" income tax return, to which you attach all your supporting information - 1099's, employee's copy of W-2's , etc.  That way if you need any of this information, for any reason, you simply reach into your file and you have it.

The numbers from your W-2 are transferred into your tax return (for some taxpayers whose employers participate) but turbotax does not have your actual W-2.  You can get a transcript from the IRS for free or you can get an actual copy from the social security administration for a fee.  Or check with your employer.
