Do you have to pay for EI?

Im on maternity leave and was off all of 2021 receiving EI maternity benefits until December 5 2021. I also got top up from my job which ended Dec 5 2021 as well. Why do I owe?

EI is taxable income. If you received EI income as well as a top-up from your job, your income may have risen to a higher tax bracket. This could mean the tax you paid may not have been enough for the amount of income you received, because it was taxed at a lower percentage rate.
