If you are no longer self-employed, you would have to start your return from scratch in order to prevent the self-employment information from entering your 2021 return.
To start a completely brand new return, select “Start a New Return” from under “My Returns” in the top left corner. Then click on the "Create A Different Return" button.
Apparently Netfile won’t work if there was self-employment data from a previous tax year imported into this year’s return. No longer self-employed. TurboTax says to start a new return to avoid importing self-employment data from a previous tax year? Sorry, there must be a better way.
You can delete the business from the Self-Employment section. Use the “Find” tool 🔍 to search for “self”. Select “Self-Employment” and then click the “Go” button.
But, if you are using TurboTax Online, by transferring the self-employment information from last year, you would have started in TurboTax Self-Employed. Deleting the self-employment information doesn't downgrade your return, so you will still be charged for Self-Employed version of TurboTax. You would have to start a new return without transferring your info if you want to use a cheaper version of TurboTax.
