Question

I am not self-employed but there is a message saying I need to upgrade. How can I skip this?

    I also would like to know but it may be too late. I was doing my spouses and my taxes which were exactly the same as last year. I only needed the Standard package last year for $39.54 which allowed me do complete both our taxes. When I signed on this year and imported my tax slip info it first suggested I use the Deluxe Package then when I went further it wanted me to upgrade to the Premier Package for my T5 slip . Then shortly later it wanted me to get the Self -employed package because of a T4A slip I had. It wouldn't let me go further without it. I agreed but this tactic is a robbery of my time and money which makes me pay for our combined taxes at a total of $49.99 each plus tax. ($ 112.98) . Last year was so straight forward with my same forms while only needing the Standard Package.  Trying to get any answers or partial refund is impossible...

    @ronp1755

    If you've entered an amount from any of the boxes on the slips listed here, you have what the CRA considers to be self-employment or business income:

    • T4 slip: box 81, 82 or 83
    • T4A slip: box 20 or 48
    • T4A slip: box 28 and you selected Yes to the question Does the income declared in Box 028 consist of fees collected for services you provided? in TurboTax Online
    • T3 slip: box 24 (foreign business income)

    If you have an amount in any of these boxes, TurboTax will ask additional questions to report the income as self-employment/business income. You only need to answer basic information, such as business name and address (can be your own), industry code, and fiscal period (Jan 01 to December 31).

    @RC1959 TurboTax Online did not have a Standard version last year, as it was replaced by Deluxe. Perhaps you used TurboTax Standard CD/Download, which still includes investment and self-employment forms?
