Question

I don't have employment income last year because I'm at school full time, do I still have to fill up the T4 section?

If you did not work during the tax year, you will have no T4 slip. A T4 slip is a document that summarizes all of the money paid by an employer to an employee during a calendar year.

However, even if you’re not required to file a return, sometimes it’s in your own best interest to do so anyways. If you attended school and have eligible tuition fees, you must declare the amounts on your tax return, even if you are not using them. You might not need to use the credits this year, but in order to carryforward or transfer them, they must be reported on your current year tax return.
