Question

I have no income and a totally basic return, yet they want to charge 19.99. why is it not free?

    IF you have a "simple" return (and it sounds like you might be in this category),  there is a free online TurboTax version which Intuit provides as a courtesy that you might be able to use.  Check it out at     https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tax/filing/free         (TurboTax is a program written and created by the company Intuit.   It costs them money to do this and to keep it updated and supported  -   that's why they charge for general use of their software.)
