My tax return is a simple T4, a T4A and an RRSP receipt. I am being asked to pay for Turbotax Deluxe. Should a simple return be free to file?

Why is the free option not available to me online?

With TurboTax Online- When using the FREE version- it covers the following:

Covers COVID-19 benefits and repayments, Import slips directly from the CRA,

Import last year’s TurboTax info, Covers employment, unemployment, and pension income,

Handles RRSP contributions and Claim dependent and student credits.

You said you have a T4A- depending on which box you have an amount in - it would have upgraded you to TurboTax Deluxe to cover one of the following:

Claim donations, medical expenses, and employment expenses,

Automatically searches more than 400 credits,

Identifies tax-saving opportunities,

Optimizes donations, medical expenses and RRSPs for the best result.
