Box 2 says it requires a value.  I put in 0.00 which is what's on the 1098 and it won't take it.

    Since there’s not an amount there, you can call your financial institution to see what they have on file.  There should be an entry in Box 2.

    Box 2 of Form 1098 displays the outstanding principal on the mortgage as of January 1, 2021.  

    If your mortgage originated in 2021, it will show the mortgage principal as of the date of origination.  

    If the recipient/lender acquired the loan in 2021, Box 2 shows the mortgage principal as of the date of acquisition.
