Mortgage interest 1098 form

I was working on my taxes and when I got to the section of mortgage interest it took me to a screen where I had to enter my bank and login and password to get 1098 forms uploaded. I was reluctant on entering the information because I have been the victim of Identity theft. But I did enter and my bank sent me a code when I entered there was an error, I tried again and there was an error again.

I want to make sure that this process is correct - I have never had to do this before in 8 years with Turbo Tax.

TurboTax is always trying to make it easier for you to file your taxes. You can import your Form 1098 from your mortgage company.

An error might mean your Form 1098 is not ready for import. Lenders have until January 31 to send out the forms.

If you do not wish to import,

Click Change how I enter my form, on the screen Let’s import your tax info.
Click Type it in myself on the next screen (How do you want to add your 1098?).

You don’t have to import if your Form 1098 if you don’t want to, even if you can.
