Solved

My T5008 CRA site download correctly identifies the "Type securities type code" as BON, but the corresponding "Income Type" shown is "Investment". Why not capital gain?

The "Income Type" reported on the T5008 form is determined based on the nature of the income earned from the security transaction. If you held the bond until maturity, the income earned would be in the form of interest, which is considered "Investment Income". If you sold the bond before maturity, any profit you earned would be considered a "Capital Gain".
