Question

As a part year resident do I pay taxes on my house that I turned into a rental and moved out of state?

I moved out of PA in August and converted my home into a rental. I am filing PA state tax as a part year resident. My rental income started in PA after I had left the state. Do I show it as a net profit in PA state tax or a rental income in my the State tax where I have moved ? Turbotax seems to suggest to show net profit as non PA earning but I may be interpreting it wrong. Also do I file 1 filing as part year resident of PA or two as apart year resident and non-resident , in addition to my current state as part year resident

Q. Do I show it as a net profit in PA state tax or a rental income in my the State tax where I have moved ?

A. Both.

The income is PA source income and must be reported on your PA return.  But, since the income was received while you were a resident of your new state, it must also be reported on that return. Your new state will give you a credit for the PA tax paid on that specific income.

You file both states as a part year resident.
