Question

How do I claim property taxes on a 2nd home not used for rental or business? No mortgage on home.

Where do I enter these taxes?  I pay over $3000 in property taxes on a beach house.  I do not rent out this home, nor do I use it for work.

Federal schedule A. but if your taxes are already $10,000 or more the additional taxes will produce no Federal tax benefit. maybe for state income tax purposes.

Enter property (real estate)t taxes:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on Federal tab.
  3. Click on Deductions & Credits.
  4. Click on Edit/Add to the right of Property (Real Estate) Taxes.
