who is claiming the children in 2020? that is the determining factor

Without going into detail, it is possible for divorced parents to each get paid for the same child. If one parent claimed the child in 2019, they may have received a stimulus payment for that child, but if the other claims the child in 2020, that parent will get an "EIP credit" for the same child which will increase their refund.
