The IRS cannot change payment information, including bank account or mailing information. If an eligible taxpayer does not get a payment or it is less than expected, it may be claimed on the 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit.

If the deposit is rejected due to a closed account then the IRS will convert to a check mailed to the address on the tax return.  The fact that this may  take longer is just how it is.   If they don't get the check in the mail by 1/15  then you will be able to apply for the money on the 2020 return you will file soon.
