Question

Stimulus and Spouse on Social Security

My ex-spouse and I filed our 2019 as Married and Filing Joint. He had no income other than the benefits he was receiving. I did not claim him as a dependent. I know I will be receiving the Stimulus benefit based off the 2019 filing. Does he qualify for his own Stimulus benefit since he automatically qualifies for it? Or will his be lumped in with mine?

It depends.

If your stimulus payment is paid after the filing of your 2019 tax return, it will be based off of that tax return.

What does the stimulus package mean for you?

As long as you fall within the eligibility requirements for a stimulus payment, you would receive $2,400 for filing jointly.  $1,200 for you and $1,200 for him.  If you have any dependents under 17, then you would be entitled to $500 per dependent.

You can use the link below to calculate your stimulus payment.

As long as you do not have any back payment for child support, you would receive the entire amount.  The amount will either be deposited directly into your bank account if you elected to receive a refund via direct deposit on your tax return, or a check will be mailed to the address on your last tax return filed.

The IRS just started issuing payments over the last few days and is processing them as quickly as possible.

The payment of the stimulus funds for tax filers can be tracked at the following website:
