What category should I use for purchase of shares of public stock?

I purchased some ETF shares. What category and entries do I need for that?

Transactions are not complete until they have been sold.  If you didn't sell the ETF by the end of the year it will not appear on the 1099-B.

 

ETF's are record in a similar wat to stocks.

 

Income & Expenses

  1. Scroll to Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other
  2. Answer Yes to Did you sell stocks, mutual funds, bonds, or other investments in 2020?
  3. On the OK, what type of investments did you sell? screen, select Stock, Bonds, Mutual Funds (Options, index funds, ETFs). Then select Continue.
