Question

Can I file electronically if I have a 1099R with a 7D classification? I was told no by a Turbo Tax specialist, that I had to print and mail.

You can e-file normally with a form 1099-R with code 7D in box 7.

7D is the combination of 2 codes, 7 and D. You should enter them both.

In TurboTax Online, on the entry screen of form 1099-R, put a checkmark on I have more than one value in Box 7. A second Box 7 will appear and you can enter the two codes, one in each box. The order doesn’t matter; TurboTax will make sure you get the right results either way.

I agree that the boxes exist to I see a “7” and a”D”.  However when completing the final review you will an error asking you to choose whether this account is an “IRA” or an 503B or “other “.  The files may exist but the review is where the problem is.  I did get online help and the turbo tax rep said a paper copy was the only way to submit a 1099r with a 7D.  Is that true?

The tax return should be electronically filed.

Delete then re-enter the IRS form 1099-R.

TurboTax updates have taken place that may have corrected the issues that you experienced.
