If I am understanding correctly, wouldn't I have to make over $24,000? Please help.

Correct.  You would only have to file a nonresident tax return if  the total of the following is more than $24,000:

    • Iowa taxable income
    • Standard deduction or itemized deductions
    • Qualified business income deduction
    • Any amount of lump-sum tax distributions of taxable income
    • Carryover of net operating loss
