Question

Error in 2024 TT Premier. When I enter $0 for the 199A income that the K-1 from a Trust says I received. Turbo tax wants me to explain what the type of income $0 is.

How can you explain what is not income but is actually a cipher? Last year when I entered $0 for the 199A income TT just bypassed any explanation.

Can you leave that field blank instead of entering a zero?

On line 14 of the K-1 Select the category I 199A income. Enter $0. Select continue until the you are back at the Trust summary page. Run the error check. TT will say there is an error on the category I line item. Go back into the K-1. Remove the I category and select continue to return to the Trust summary page. Run the error check. The error is now gone. However, TT no longer reflects the information that is on the K-1. For the last 20 years as I have reported the K-1 from a Trust I have been able to enter 0 in that I category reflecting what is on supplied K-1. This year it does not allow the category I entry. Logic dictates that if an entry is 0 then the program should not go into a lengthy explanation of what the 0 consist of.

The same holds true for entering a K-1 for a LP except that the line on the K-1 is 20 and the category is Z.

INHO this is a design deficiency, AKA a bug.

No one from the company can be bothered to answer or even acknowledge an error in the software. Same as my other complaints over the years. Intuit charges a lot and doesn't provide support.
