I have state taxes withheld from my social security.  How do I input these into TurboTax?  I only see federal withholdings (box 6).

Thank you.

In TurboTax Online, state withholding tax not already entered on a W-2 or 1099 may be entered as follows:

    • Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
    • Down the left side of the screen, click Deductions & Credits.
    • Click the down arrow to the right of Estimates and Other Taxes Paid.
    • Click to the right of Income Taxes Paid.
    • Click the down arrow to the right of Other Income Taxes Paid.
    • Click to the right of Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099.
    • Click Yes.

    JamesG1,

    Thanks for your response.

If I go that route I get a message that the state return cannot be filed electronically.  Is there a way to have the State withholdings appear in the SSA-1099 input screen?

FYI - I am using TurboTax Premiere on a Windows desktop.

    Thanks again.

No, it's so uncommon for state withholding to appear on the SSA-1099 and other documents which is why there is a specific entry to make sure it is included.

It's quite likely the state wants to see the withholding which is why the e-file is prohibited.  Be sure to make a copy of your SSA-1099 to send with your state return and keep a copy for yourself.
