Question

1099 NEC vs 1099 MISC. This year one of my vendors sent 1099 MISC instead and it was 1099NEC last year. Is this going to be a problem? The other is 1099NEC.

This is for loss control reports work at home as an independent contractor. The one with 1099 MISC is based in CA but all work is done at my IL home office.

They should have issued a 1099NEC. You could get a corrected form, but that may take time and they may not wish to issue you one.   You can enter the 1099-MISC. You will be asked if this involves an intent to make money and if it involves work that is like your main job. Answer yes to both questions and you will be directed toward Schedule C.

Another option is to Enter it as Other self-employed income in Schedule C and indicate the type of payment is from a 1099-MISC.
