I live in Minnesota.  I performed free lance work from my home in Minnesota over Zoom for a California company and received a 1099.  Do I need to file a California state income tax return?

No.  If you earned the income in MN, it is MN sourced incomed.   It doesn't matter where your client, the issuer of the 1099, is located.   It is self-employment income that will be taxed by the IRS and your resident state (MN).

How do I report income from self-employment?
