Schedule SE line 8a should represent total social security wages and tips (total of boxes 3 and 7 on Form(s) W-2) and railroad retirement (tier 1) compensation.

Box 3 on your Form W-2 is your Social Security wages, which may differ from your Box 1 wages subject to income tax. Box 7 on your W-2 is for Social Security tips. This will only be for the wages of the person who is self-employed.

Check your entries for your Forms W-2 in the Wages section if the amount on Schedule SE, line 8a, doesn't equal what you see on your Forms W-2 for Boxes 3 and 7 combined.

There are a number of possible reasons that what you see on your screen doesn't match the figures you entered. When you are using the Online version, it can also happen that there is a delay in your entries appearing on your screen due to Internet issues.
