Question

Does Self-Employed cover federal and state self-employment taxes?

I purchased Self-Employed to help me file the taxes owed on my gig work. Does Self-Employed also account for my state's self-employment taxes?  I am in the state of Minnesota.  Thanks!

Did you owe state tax due?   Why are you asking if it was paid?  You have to pay it yourself----how did you pay?

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.

My apologies-- I got confused when was trying to search on my TT page for an answer related to my question.  I edited my post for more clarity.  I filed my federal and state return with TT and reported my self-employment income.  According to TT, I will be getting a refund from my state.  I just want to be sure TT included the assessment of MN's self-employment tax in addition to federal.

Please clarify. Are you a sole proprietor, Subchapter S, Partnership or C-Corp? Did you complete a Schedule C on your Federal return? What state are you referring to?

I am a sole proprietor (gig work ex. DoorDash, Instacart) and completed a Schedule C on my federal return.  I am in the state of Minnesota.

Thanks for your help!

Minnesota does not have  separate self employment tax from the federal rate of 15.3%. If you created a Minnesota return and entered your business activity in the federal return, it would have flowed into the state return.
