Hi! I have three names working as a self-employed artist: 1. Real name. 2. Twitter name. 3. Etsy name. Each with separate expenses. How would I file each of these?

If you have 3 businesses you would have 3 Sch C’s.

What tax number are you being paid under?

  • If you use your Social Security Number,  OR
  • If you've set up a single TIN Tax Identification Number under all three names.
  • You can prepare a single Schedule C.

If you have individual TIN's they should have a unique Schedule C.

You have two options on how you may report the income and expenses.

Option 1: You could set up three (3) different businesses in TurboTax which will generate three (3) Schedule C forms. The Schedule C forms will all be added together and be reported on Schedule 1, Line 3. If you want to keep track of how each of the three names are performing, this may be your best option.

Option 2: You could set up one (1) business (Artist) and enter the combined income and expenses on the Schedule C form. In this option, you'll have one (1) Schedule C.
