Question

How to expense restaurant visits when I'm a food writer; the 2022 California gas tax credit

- I'm a food writer...what category do I use to expense my food purchases?

- Why didn't I get the $350 California gas tax credit (like all of my peers did) when I've paid California state taxes for the past seven years? I tried several times to get through to the California Tax Franchise Board throughout the last year- I even mailed them my state tax form- and it was impossible to get an answer. I thought that turbotax verified or helped with these kinds of issues?

Hi, @kayla1080 , thanks for the questions! Since you are a food writer, your meals could be deducted as Supplies.

But no, I'm afraid the gas tax credit is outside of our scope, as it's separate from your income tax return, and the payment comes directly from the state. I'm afraid that they're the only ones who can answer that particular question.

I do hope this helps!
