If you have already filed the tax return already, you will have to file an amendment to delete 1099 Misc and add 1099-NEC.

Wait till IRS processes your tax return and then file an amendment.

If you have not filed the tax return,

To delete the entry under 1099-Misc

  • Open your tax return
  • Enter1099-misc in the search box
  • Click on Jump to form 1099-misc
  • Click on the trash can next to the 1099 Misc you want to delete

If you have 1099-NEC you are a self-employed person and you will have to add Schedule C to your tax return,

  • Open or continue your return
  • Search for schedule c and click the Jump to link in the search results.
  • Answer Yes to Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?
    • If you've already entered self-employment work and this is a new business select Add another line of work
    • Enter your 1099-NEC
  • Follow the onscreen instructions.
