Question

I have only a 1099-NEC. Turbo tax will not give me the child tax credit or the EIC. Please tell me why.

So you entered self-employment income?  Did you show a loss?   If you do not show positive income you will not qualify for earned income credit or the refundable additional child tax credit.

You have to file it as self employment income on Schedule C showing a profit to count as earned income to qualify for credits.  You can enter 1099NEC or Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Premium or use any of the Desktop CD/Download programs. All the Desktop programs have the same forms, so you can buy a lower version.  You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.

How much income was reported on the 1099-NEC?   Do you have qualifying child dependents entered?
