Question

I received a 1099 misc that is not self-employment income. It was a bonus. How do I enter this income? Turbo Tax keeps putting it as self-employment.

I need to enter a 1099 misc as a bonus, not as self-employment.

Yes, normally a bonus from your employer would be reported on a W-2, not a 1099-Misc.

When entering your 1099-Misc, choose 'None of these apply' from the Uncommon Situations screen.

Continue, and then indicate that it is 'not work like your main job' and you had no 'intent to earn money' to get it reported as Miscellaneous Income on your return.
