Question

If I am a sole proprietor and I go home between morning and evening meetings with clients, are both of those round trips considered commuting?

I own a growing pet sitting business, but I do not have a home office. If I have four clients - two in the morning and two in the evening - and I go home in the middle of the day between my second and third meeting, are those miles deductible? I understand that my mileage between clients is deductible, but that my first trip to my first client and my trip home from my last client are considered commuting and non-deductible. However, would a mid-day trip home be claimable? Would I be able to claim the miles from my second client to my third client and just deduct the miles it took to go home? Thank you.

The trip home in the middle of the business day is still commuting and not tax deductible.

What you are proposing would not pass an audit.
