Question

If my w-2 income in 2022 was already over the social security limit do I also pay self-employment tax on my self-employment income?

If you have already paid SS tax on $147,000 on your W-2. then you do not pay the SS part (12.$%) of self-employment tax on your self-employed income.

But you still have to paid the Medicare part of self-employment tax (2.9%) and the additional Medicare tax of 0.9% (over $200,000 single or $250,000 MFJ).
