I rented a booth at a shop, and the shop closed in October 2022. The owner did not give me a 1099.

Here's how to report self-employment income if your did not receive Form 1099-NEC from a shop owner:

  1. Type sch c in Search (magnifying glass) in the top right
  2. Select Jump to sch c
  3. Fill in your business information
  4. On the main screen "Here's your [work] info, tap Add income for this work
  5. Choose Other self-employed income, includes cash and checks, and enter your income
  6. TurboTax may suggest expenses. If your expenses don't match, tap Add expenses for this work

You don’t need the 1099 to deduct your rent expense on Sch C. Just keep the documentation that you paid in case of an audit.

A 1099NEC is for income they paid you not expenses.   You should report your income and expenses from your own records whether or not you get a 1099NEC.
