This is handled as other income and not business income.

  1. Go to federal>income and expenses>all income>>show more
  2. Other common income> Start
  3. Form 1099-MISC,>start
  4.  Answer Yes to the question Did you get a 1099-MISC?
  5. Fill out the boxes from your paper 1099-MISC and then click Continue.
  6. On the Does one of these uncommon situations apply? screen, select This was money from a lawsuit settlement and then answer the back wages question before clicking Continue.

If you have reported your 1099 MISC a described above, the program should not prompt you to enter information regarding Business name and business code in your CA return. you may need to go back and review/delete any entries made if you did not follow the steps I outlined above.
